Exhaust system advice

So my exhaust pipes at the back have split... I haven't crawled under to fully look yet, but it looks like there are various splits along the last 2 feet or so. Doesn't seem to be affecting much besides exhaust coming out the right wheel well when its sitting idling.

Tonight or tomorrow (its damn cold here, don't wanna go outside) I'll crawl under and get an idea of the damage, but if its just the back section is it better to just replace the assembly (I think its a one piece on the L400s right?) or should I have it cut and a new pipe section made/welded on.

If I end up doing the whole assembly, is that something an average DIYer can handle or does it get complicated near the engine?

The only experience I have with exhaust is using chicken wire to keep the muffler on my camaro off the road when I was a teenager :?
