PM's

Being a member of several different forums, can I just put it forward that a private message is a PRIVATE message. It is redundant to "quote" someone's thread and reply with "pm sent". When you login to the forum it tells you that "you've got mail!" so letting everyone on the forum know that you've sent this person a PM seems a little silly! This is the only forum where this practice seems so common. Let's keep posts relevant so the forum doesn't become boring!! When I read problem, or help needed posts I myself am looking for help and am interested in solutions!

Reply with a big SHUT UP. If you disagree ;)

Just my 2 cents

Maybe I should've put this in "the last word cafe" as not to waste forum space myself!! Oops

I had thought that before too but then I caught myself browsing without logging in a lot of the time hence not seeing PM's in a timely manner. Other forums I am on require me to be logged in to view certain areas of the forums. That said... my email informs me of PM's as well and I usually check that first...

So... am I wasting space by contradicting myself in a reply? Perhaps... but I'm selfish like that... :-D

The times I have found it useful are when trying to buy something (first come first serve). One person may state in the thread that they want the item for sale and one person might send a p.m. If the person sending the p.m posts in the thread saying "pm sent" the seller will know who was first to respond and who the lucky new owner of their item will be. Other than this I see no point to the posting. I assume you're referring the the recent few posts where one party say's "pm sent" about work that needs to be done on their vehicle!? The only reason I can see is if a new user is not sure how to check their pm's... :?

It's a slick salesman gimmick Image used by some vendors to make their name known when someone is looking for a part.

Free advertising by posting 'pm sent' along with the vendor's signature, sales, promo's and offerings grants that specific vendor mass exposure on this forum on a constant basis. Every time there is a question 'where can I get this' ... BOOM .. 'pm sent' by vendors.

Good promoting tool for the vendors in a forum that has one rule against it but is not enforced. Image Simply annoying for regular members. Just have to suck it up or ignore it.
