Hi there, I'm fairly new here. I have a 91 Pajero 2500 diesel.

I've just moved to Penticton from Vancouver and today for the first time driving in some -15 temps my Pajero stalled out.

It started up fine (I had the block heater plugged in), I let it warm up for 10 minutes or so. I drove down the road a couple hundred meters and after I revving it up a bit the RPMs fall and fall and then the engine just cuts out. I started it back up... it didn't want to start too easily and it stalled again a little ways down the road. I couldn't go far because it kept cutting out. So I drove it back home and now I'm stuck quite a ways out of town.

Could it just be that the fuel filter is plugged? I'm ordering a new one, so hopefully this helps.

Anyone else have this problem?

In the mean time you should drain the water out of the bottom of the filter via the valve on the bottom.... Make sure it's not frozen. I would suspect that it's a fuel problem. Add some diesel additive also, like standyne or equivalent to make sure your pump lubricated.

You can make sure that your getting adequate fuel pressure by cracking each injector nut while its ideling and checking that diesel leaks out of each one. It doesn't show that your injectors are spraying correctly but it's a start

Do you have the Haynes manual? I have a pdf of it, but am missing that chapter!

Sorry I don't have a Haynes but draining the water valve is easy. It is easiest to remove the inter cooler first.
(4 ten mm bolts on supports, loosen two hoses intake manifold and turbo) put a rag or glove to cover exposed holes
Also there are two electrical connections that need to be disconnected on the rear of the intercooler as well as two small vacuum lines on the rear of the valve cover then the intercooler will lift away

This isn't totally necessary but will give you more room to work and see what your doing

Next locate the fuel filter and the plastic wing nut style drain valve attached to the bottom

Place some sort of fuel catching container under the valve and open it up. Use a flash light and watch the color or the liquid and let it run for a couple seconds and make sure that you get clean diesel coming out.

Close the valve and put er back together!!

I would really get a new filter on that ASAP
