Amazing footage. That canter/Fuso reminds me of delicat's Mitsushi on steroids  :o

Posted a few years ago and couldn't find it. Profister's translation was somewhere along the lines that it was training to prepare for an excursion from Mongolia to somewhere in the middle of nowhere. They posted other parts that are amazing. Music.. quite Russian :-D

Check out their videos for some odd things: http://www.youtube.com/user/olegkirichenko/videos

She's a cutie! Wish she was the one carrying the rope across the river in that attire...8-)

And just as nice to see my truck swimming in the river! I remember seeing the 1st video after I had just got my truck, it was the first time I saw mine had a twin in Russia!

Cheers
Mr. D

I was chomping my nails when I saw that last one, especially for the passenger in that red/orange exo creation lol.

I'm wondering what was going through the passenger's head as it was submerged and began rolling over fast. The driver got out quick and the passenger could have been trapped. Scary as sh*t. :o

that just show how serious those russians are about their wheeling hahaha

isn't that red exo'd buggy a Lada Niva?? or some kind of Lada?

I love how they just drag it out and get back in the race haha!

A few notes from a Russian Delica Club member.
Jesse: there is no such thing as a passenger on the rally trail; the person beside a pilot is a navigator who does all the messy job when a vehicle gets stuck i.e. hooking up a winch cable etc. Excursion is what you do on the Whipsaw trail; the one you refer to looks like an expedition to me. 8-)
Raule Duke: yes, the red one was Lada. I do not get the 'hahaha' part but when it comes to off-roading Russians take it really serious; you have no idea how serious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... iLMN8#t=8s

That video was...interesting  Although using tracked vehicles to drag other vehicles through 3-foot deep mud at a remote camp does not exactly fit my idea of recreational Off-roading - looks more like work:

"Next on Discovery HD - Mud Road Truckers!!!"

And the S-class up in water over the hood - that's not off-roading - just stupid. It's "Hey! I've got more money than sense - let's drive our vehicles somewhere they were never designed to come close to going, and see what breaks/screws up! HaHaHa!!"

Those other guys expedition planning have much more of my respect. Its reminds me of a concise definition of sailing/seamanship I once read: "Good seamanship is the practice of getting safely across the water from A to B without relying on the assistance of others, while at all times being able to assist others if necessary". Protect your ass(ets) and get where you're going with minimum fuss and damage to your gear.

Different strokes for different folks, I s'pose.

Whee!!! Thread hijack!!

As far as expedition vehicles go, if you are willing to sacrifice the final 10-10ths of "go anywhere" (i.e. big ground clearance, etc.) for a big notch up in comfort, this is an interesting Mitsu design:

http://www.travelvans.co.uk/id52.htm

My Dad worked with this guy Carl Hunter who designed it, and although it looks like a trailer thrown on a Fuso chassis, it has a clever design trick:

The trailer is on a shallow cradle, and while one end of the cradle is attached to the rear of the truck frame, the other is attached at a single horizontal pivot point. As a result, as the truck flexes and articulates, the trailer can remain reasonably vertical.

Another guy Doug Hackney made a vehicle based on this original concept; he has a **very** comprehensive build record on his website; good place for ideas:

Here is the 3-point frame idea - good articulation photos:
