Mount for smartphone?

Has anyone come up with a secure and creative way to mount a GPS or smartphone to the dash of an L300? After trying the various aftermarket products that all fall off or fall apart, I'm about to get serious with the power tools.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Cheers,
Shane.

I just attach it to the windshield with a suction cup.

Tried that, but the suction cups tend to lose their suction in short order due to temperature fluctuations... unless you found a better quality unit. Where did you get yours?

Mine came with my gps. It started to stop working after about 3 years but if I breath hot hair on it now it works like new again. I've also seem suction cups that mount to your dash. That could be an option!?

I use a RAM system to mount my GPS on my bikes. Not sure if they have what you are looking for, but there is a plethora of styles/types to choose from.
Here is their site.

On my L400, there is a useless little triangular window just forward of the driver's door.
I went to the dollar store and for a buck got a little sticky vinyl pad that stops stuff from slipping around on your dashboard.
Now I lean the upper right corner of my phone against the window (I can just see it perfectly off to the right of the steering wheel) with the phone bottom on the sticky pad and the upper edge against the leading frame of the window. Wedges in place perfectly; the only downside is that it is the wrong side to be plugged into the cigarette outlet.

I have a Kensington smartphone holder that mounts to the windshield, works great and has never fallen off, gone in some extreme temperatures too. I love having my iPhone right beside the steering wheel.

Probably the best mount for a smartphone while driving is up your butt (unless you are using it for GPS). This lets you focus on the road instead of reading/responding to text messages.
