Squeak from brakes perhaps

So I had an encounter with a snow drift last week, and I am not sure if its related to the problem below....

I've noticed an intermittent squeak sound coming from my driver-side axle/wheel area. I think its brake related as it squeaks with every rotation of the wheel. Strangely, it disappears as the vehicle speeds up. My naive thinking is that there is something going on with calipers/rotors/pads. When the pads are cold, they sqeak with every turn; when it heats up, there is more space and they no longer rub.

I have an uncanny ability to have my pants pulled down at repair shops. I dont plan on fixing this myself, but I would like to go in with an reasonably informed problem statement and potential cause. Any insight would be tremendously appreciated.

I have some photos of my front driver wheel. There is some curious oil that collects in the rim. I thought it might be brake related, but its in front of the brakes (something else... great :o )

Thank you again!

Have you tried jacking it up and spinning the wheel? Seized calipers are pretty common. Is that mystery oil brake fluid by any chance? The smell is quite distinctive, maybe check your brake reservoir level then see if you can see where it's coming from. Could be leaking from a brake pipe or hose.

no one likes their pants yanked by a stranger

looks like brake fluid leaking out of the piston seal

rotating squeaking cold/not when hot points to old brake pads

Thanks very much!

I have am going on Saturday to get it sussed out. The brakes do feel pretty spongy so I think they might be due for a change.

Cheers

Phew. Brakes are all good. Just need to tidy up the rotors a bit as I burnt them coming down Duffy Lake road. Should have used the engine more.

So what did the mystery oil leak turn out to be?
