Oil leak from tiny part

Hey guys,
Not sure exactly what this part does but noticed the metal has cracked and is leaking a bit of oil. Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks!

that is a vacuum (air) line for boost from the turbo
clean/wipe down the oil in the surrounding area and see if you're getting oil blown through

OK. Just checked and looks like I am. I wiped it down yesterday when doing an oil change and it's dirty again.

That's a pressure line coming from the turbo for the boost compensator on the top of the fuel pump. The boost compensator increase or decrease the amount of fuel injected into the engine in relation to the amount of boost provided by the turbocharger.
The leak is coming from the turbo, maybe your turbo is leaking a bit. Nothing really wrong with that if engine oil comsumption is normal.
Repair this and you will probably find that your van will have more power!

I was going to mention something about that actually. I know L300's aren't power beasts or anything but mine feels pretty pathetic much of the time. Basically if I hit a hill or even an incline on the highway my RPM's start to drop. Much of the time it feels like the van is trying to hang onto a gear for too long (most noticeably 4th ((auto trans)) ). Steeper parts of the Malahat leave me in the 50 to maybe 60kph range with no load and I get passed by everything. With 4 passengers I can be in the 40-50 kph range. Could this be part of the cause?

Oh yeah!
Repair the nipple on the boost compensator and you will see a difference.

Would a sort of epoxy work to seal that or does the part need to be replaced?

normal on the Malahat
you should not be lugging the motor (keeping it in 4th) up the Malahat. You will melt the head.
overdrive off, gear down to 2 with RPM's at 3k
are you using a pyro/egt gauge to monitor your engine temperature?
If you are up&down on the Malahat often, a pyro will save your engine from being cooked.

Oh no, I wouldn't keep it in 4th. I usually would be in high 3rd or 2nd from 2,700 - 3,000 rpm I think. Interesting if that is normal speed over the Malahat though. I've only ever driven one other L300 (the lender at CC autos) and it sure was fast! Cleared the Malahat no problem at like 70 or 80. Would be interesting to test drive a bunch and see how they all compare. I know that mine even slows a lot at full speed as you go up the slight incline in the highway between the Thetis Lake overpass and Langford turn off. I've dropped from 100 to 60 there with a full load.
I don't have a Pyro installed but I just try and drive the van with caution in circumstances like that. I don't go over the Malahat too much but do drive to Port Renfrew quite often.

Maybe the best should be to replace the cover of the boost compensator or remove it and weld a new nipple on it.
Check for used parts from Delica dealers,Rising sun,Amazing auto,Maximum Overdrive or other.

there are many reasons why your power output is low
the most common:
retarded timing
clogged fuel lines, filter, IP
fouled injectors
With regards to a pyro as a monitoring tool, it is a false sense of security to believe that driving cautiously will
never cause the engine to overheat.

Thanks Strada. I may be up near CC autos again soon so I'll give them a shout and see if they've got one.
re: Jfarsang - I will try and look into those. Injectors are new + filter but not sure about the IP, timing or fuel lines. Read a bit on here about the Seafoam treatment for the fuel system. Maybe give that a shot too?
I'll look into the Pyro info as well.

My '92 L300 5spd will manage 70-80 over Malahat (south-->north) with 2ppl & light gear load..and keeping the EGTs down to reasonable levels. Don't remember what gear/rpms. - prob. 4th in the 3100rpm vicinity. Have had a leak in that turbo-to-IP hose as well (not at same place as yours' though) and your description of the anemic power profile definitely mirrors my experience. I've a turbo boost gauge so as soon as the leak occurred the gauge indicated so. I've also a pyro installed and echo many on here that it is an invaluable (ok is valu-able I suppose... = co$t of a new engine) addition. Amazing how fast the temps can climb and how big (and fast) the difference a subtle adjustment of your right foot can make to those temps.

I that first shot it looks like there's a big crack in the metal. I would guess you've got little to no psi coming off the turbo(a lot of it being lost through that crack)? Then again I'm no expert by any means!

That's kind of more what I imagine. Basically it's quite tiring at times to drive my van. I notice every single hill and it just seems to instantly lose power on slopes. I seem to remember driving over the Malahat perfectly fine (North > south) when I first bought it two years ago and it was fully loaded at the time. Not sure if it just seemed like that cause I was stoked on the new purchase or if it was actually faster. Pretty sure though that if was as slow as it is now it would have felt slow even then. Is it tricky to install the boost gauge? Might be nice to have some numbers.
