Ahoy Matey's,
The search for the white whale has brought me to Canada and the where all of you diesel Delica freaks live. I have me some questions for ye....
If I were to leave the Pequod in Vancouver and drive back home to the North East of the (somewhat united) States, will I get past the border? Anyone know what I need? My stste has a 15 year rule for registering, just need a title. So 92 and older is fine by me. But can I bring one of these to the states over the border?
And parts, aarrrrghh parts. I've been doin' me a search of your web club to answer that question and you west coasters seem to have it sussed out, what about you eastern canadians? After all we're neighbors as I'm in Maine. And if I have me one, I'll someday need parts I'm sure. I'm handy enoughto fix most things vehicle wise. I've even greased me up a number of diesels over the years with WVO since whale blubber is illegal.
I'm thinking about gettin me one of these diesel delica vehicles but don't know...a gold shilling tothe one who spots the delica with a hump like asnow hill and a crooked jaw!

you cant have a Japanese import until its 25 years old ( as far as I know) but you should check the rules with your state, but the only ones I have seen in the US are sold as "spare parts" and then what you do on your side of the boarder is your call. but from what i understand its a Federal law saying that you cant have the vehicle until its 25 years old
Parts are easy to get, I am starting a buisness in nova scotia selling delicas, so parts and such will be easy to come by.
but thats still in the works

Well, since some gents from the GAO just managed to WALK across the border in the middle of nowhere with a bright red duffel bag to prove it could be done, I'm sure somewhere in the 8000 km of border you could cross. Of course, if you want to be legal, you might try one of the official crossings. [Sorry, couldn't resist.]

I can't help you on the legal side, since I don't know the American rules. Probably stupid like the Canadian ones, but different kind of stupid.

Mitsu brought the Delica into the US in the late 80s, so many parts should be available from the dealer. What they brought in was the low roof gas engine version, so engine parts are a little more difficult.

Ah, Maine at Thanksgiving. Oh but to see some real fall colours. Alberta doesn't get any, just yellow, yellow, or maybe some yellow. I lived in Montreal most of my life, and spent several Cdn Thansgiving weekends in Maine or Vermont just reveling in the glorious riot of colour. Thanks for the reminder! Where in Maine you from? I've spent time in the Cape Porpoise area.
