How difficult would it be to swap this in?

It looks like a straight drop in. Doubt that the 50% added torque is accurate (I think your engine would explode) but, if it does push in more air that could be a very good thing, especially at high altitudes and for reducing turbo lag. Price seems a bit steep compared to the other Delica/Pajero turbos on Ebay.

Maybe they mean 50% more than a nonexistent or seized turbo...or are they thinking of making it a twin turbo?

Yah I don't see how they could make this claim either.

I e-mailed the seller asking how it actually differs from stock; no response as yet.

I've been informed by another member that this turbo will not work as a direct replacement for my current one. It would require a lot of alteration etc. Also, the ad says "oil cooled". AFAIK, mine's water cooled so -- all told, this turbo is a complete no-go.

I suppose it's possible it could be a simple swap on some of the newer Dellie's; I have no idea. (I'm trying to give the vendor the benefit of the doubt.)

But mine's going on 18 yrs old and this turbo is not a good option.

You can find good Delica/Pajero Turbos on eBay for good prices from china. Just get them balanced by a professional before installing them.

Yep. I've been sent additional info on these other aspects too and am just now starting to appreciate how little I actually understand such things!
So I don't think I'll be wading into the turbo waters at this time. There's really nothing wrong with my van anyway; I just catch a case modification-itis from time to time.

I think it's great that we have owners here with the technical know-how and understanding to play with this stuff. As for myself...? It's over my head frankly. I can see getting a bigger exhaust in the near future but other than that, I think I'd better stick to driving and fishing and keep a tight rein on modifications.

Intercooled turbo:

Compression ratio — 21:1
Power — 92 kW (125 PS) at 4000 rpm
Torque — 294 N·m (217 lb·ft) at 2000 rpm

Anything that takes those values above say, 10-20% of your engine power, say from 92 kW to 110 kW, or from 294 N.M to 352 N.m (Those figures are an increase of 20%) brings the 4M40 into the power range of the 4M41. So, real world, if you got those levels of power increases in the 4M40, odds are the engine would destroy itself in very short order. There are lots of good things you can do to the 4M40 to increase the power, but keep in mind that the power increase is only going to be the fraction of what the engine is capable of when it is set to stock.

The best power increase is to drop in a whole new engine!

Having said that, making certain all your parts are working properly likely contributes to a HUGE power boost! I had a failed caliper on my front right brake, so it was partially braking all the time. I had no idea. Fixing that certainly gave my deli some much needed oomph! I would suggest you get your engine fully tuned up, and checked. If everything is in order, then when it comes time for a new muffler, add a larger exhaust.

I remember a top gear episode about modding your car for performance, and the thing that turned out to work the best for a modification to your car to make it run the track better was a tune up.

(Of course, I say all this, and I want larger tires, a custom center console, remote start, espar hydronic D5, second fuel tank... so I am one to talk!!!)
