Hi all,

I planned on changing the gearbox filter this morning. However, I was stumped by the rear bolts on the sump.
They are very inconveniently located right above the transmission crossmember. It seems like the only way to access them is to remove parts of the crossmember.

Having never done this before, I am a bit weary of the transmission falling out and landing on my face. If anyone has removed the transmission sump on an L400, I could sure use some tips/reassurance.

I checked the manual but couldnt find anything helpful. If its easier to point me to the section, that would be great.

unless you have fingers the size of a baby's and the strength of an adult's, you'll need to put a jackstand until the trans and a floor/bottle jack under the transfer case crossmember. Lower the crossmember just enough to get the rear sump bolts out.

I would need to release bolts "A" and "D" to drop the crossmember down.
So long as I have the stands in the right places, i assume the bolts should become quite obvious.

You don't have to change the transmission filter. Just make sure your T/A oil is good. ( BTW, thanks for your jack. )
