Fuel filter confirmation etc

I just went into NAPA in Regina asking for a big list of items and came our empty handed. I wanted;
-L300 fuel filter
-3 locking hitch pins
-premixed heavy duty diesel coolant
-a coupler
-royal purple ATF
-royal purple coolant additive
-royal purple diff fluid

Unfortunately they had nothing. I called CVI and they said the fuel filter was in NAPA's system but no dice, so I searched for the numbers on the forum and came up with BF7534 or NAPA 3128 but the filter looked completely different to what's in my van.

Can anyone confirm these numbers? Also, can anyone tell me how much fluid I need for the tranny, front and rear diff. Also, I know I need to get specialized LSD fluid but are there any other specs to be aware of?

is your transmission drained and bone dry (new torque converter) ?

otherwise, drain from the pan (measure) and put in what you removed. drive to warm and check dipstick level.

unless you're having transmission problems, do not put it on a vacuum/pump machine that forces AT fluid through.

diff. front 1.2 , rear 1.8

75w90 GL4. most gear oils come with LSD friction modifier.

the fuel filter is used a many vehicles. you have a small 4cyl diesel. you don't 'need' heavy duty diesel coolant.

royal purple is not mandatory.

dude. just buy the normal stuff and drive.

get back to BC safe and enjoy the trip

I haven't drained the tranny, I'm doing all of this the day after I return so an trying to get everything in order. Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can dig up what I want and if not I'll use the "normal" stuff. :-D

Thanks, I'm heading to Calgary before Edmonton so the Sakatoon route didn't really work out in the end.

it is well known that old transmissions that were working well before a flush, ended up toast after. reasoning. Old transmissions have varnish built up inside. The fresh additives from the new fluid via flushing attack the deposits, causing them to break off and jam valves, clog passageways, etc.

the best way to 'flush' the transmission is to do it in stages. drain, fill, drive. drain, fill drive. At least on old transmissions.

lots of modern "flush" machines now use the transmission oil pump to drive the fluid, AKA you tap into cooler lines and remove old fluid and meter in new fluid at the same time with out the aid of pressure or air. These machines are safe. As for varnish build up... i agree with older DEX 3 to a certain extent. Transmission fluid has anti "coking " properties that allow it to not build up. Most damage done by flushing machines occurs from technician error... revving the vehicle in reverse ( highest pressure gear) which coupled with aggressive cleaners causing pitting or corrosion in seals. I agree jesse, i love the idea of doing a flush in stages, it also empties the torque converter! :-D
