REGINA- electrical system problem.

Well, all of my van probs happen away from home.

Van diesel started without a problem this a.m. When I got to work, I took the key out of the ignition and the sound alarm for the lights left on went off. But my lights weren't on. Then i noticed that although the keys were out, the stereo was still on, and the parking lights were still on.

So I put the key back in, the lights alarm stopped, but the van wouldn't start. the battery seemed drained.

I took the key out again and lights alarm sounded, the park lights stayed on. I took the faceplate off of the stereo.

I checked the battery posts, cleaned off a bit of corrosion off of one, and tried a different key. No luck. Battery seemed evn lower, and clicked a bit.

Removed the key again, noticed that the parking lights were still on.

I disconnected the battery and noticed that when my socket was loosening the post nut and touched the air cleaner, there was a bit of a spark.

The battery is disconnected for now. Van is in the parking lot at work.

I seek advice on two things- What might be the nature of the problem? I suspect a problem in the ignition switch, but don't know why the battery would be drained because of that.

Recommendations on a shop in Regina that might be able to get it on the road. I'm from Saskatoon and don't have any contacts here.

cheers, Thanks in advance.

Patton

Mardy contacted me immediately and gave me a run-down of possible causes. it seems I tripped the fog lights switch, which caused the light alarm to go off. this appears to have drained the battery. Now it appears that I only need a boost.
Thanks Mardy!!
