Cold weather, MORE POWER!!!

Ontario is seeing low single digits to mid teens on the Celsius scale, and I am noticing a power increase vs. the 30°+ days. Less smoke too.
Anyone else notice this?
Also: New glow plugs are working a treat. I'd get hiccoughs at anything below 10° before, now she starts like a dream.

I too have noticed exactly the same things! More power, better acceleration, better start ups (new glow plugs 2 weeks ago). Temp here in the mornings is starting to be between 0 and -5. I wonder if the van likes taking in colder air, making the job of the intercooler even easier?

That's my thought exactly: more air is getting into the engine (by virtue of it being colder/denser).
I wonder what the limiting factor is though: Intercooler performance or just total intake restriction. I should bug Bonsai and see how his K&N is treating him...

On a similar note: I was in yellowstone this summer at an altitude of 8000 feet and I had some very rough starts with lots of spuddering and smoke. It was nice to descend back down to sea level(ish) and have my old van back.

It must have been the air density.

I have a K+N as well. I can hear the turbo spool better when it is cooler like this.

Aeroplanes take off better in cold weather, as well. It's because of the denser atmosphere, more oxygen, especially closer to sea level.

Thanks for that Falco. I keep forgetting that when I tell the tower I need the longer runway cause I only have 86 horses
