Hi all!
No here goes my story... I am lost and afraid but more importantly without Air!!
At a service centre I was informed that I needed to replace the following,
Condenser, compressor, dryer, lines. $2000 Au later the system is gassed, check for leaks
None found :) I'm thinking yay cool air comin my way !!!!
Not on your Nelle! Nothing but the stinkin hot 40 degree C air that's outside blowing all up in my faces!

I have checked the pressure switch on the silver bottle that has the greenish glass looking hole in it and it seems to work, now when I turn the Aircon on... The display tells me it's on, the thermal fans turn on to cool the condenser BUT .... The fat old but brand new lazy compressor spins by the belt but will not engage. I have big hands and god has not yet created anything small enough to get to the power socket on the top of the clutch around the inter cooler, can anyone please help me with my air and offer some suggestions to what I can test?
I have checked the under bonnet compressor relay and it's good, checked fuses them be good too.

I love the new bits :) they are all shiney but.... I would really like some cold air to go with them :)

Assuming you have checked all fuses and relays, Check to see that the compressor has a good ground. If so, mounted on the side of your intercooler are 2 vacuum switches. One goes to the fast idle mechanisim on your injection pump. This boosts your rpm when the compressor engages. by applying 12V to the wires on this vacuum switch, you can backfeed the a/c circut and your compressor should kick in (the rpm will also bump up slightly) This will let you know if your wiring is intact to the compressor, and if it is working. If that is good, then you will need to check the high and low pressure switches. (i'm not sure of their locations at the moment, but they will be along the a/c lines) These are 2 wire switches, and can be bypassed with a simple jumper wire to see if they are working or not.(do not run the system for long with a bypassed switch, or you can damage the system). If none of this works, give me a pm and we can try some telephone diagnostics. I often can't type fast enough, and get logged out. Hope this helps.

check the UK site...i seem to remember someone with the same problem. I think there is a electric switch that closes the heater lines when the AC is engaged. Sometimes even with the AC engaged the heater remains fully engaged and overpowers the AC....If I remember correctly.

When the compressor fails on The L400 it spins freely; but does not compress the gas at all.
