I've searched this and can find lots of help when the sliding door won't open, but mine won't close. When I slide it forward it just bangs against the "stop" and doesn't move in towards the closed position. If anyone has dealt with this, I could sure use some advice. Thanks!

I"ve had the same problem. Had to adjust the door to come out a bit from the bottom. Also adjusted the bolt that it sits on in the door frame. About half way down. And that worked. If this doesn't make sense i can send pictures.

with mine it usualy happens on cold days... I just move the inner handle back and forth a few times then it closes just fine

Clean the electrical contacts on the B pillar for he sliding door. Steel wool, scotch bright pad works nicely for removing light corrosion. The contacts are operate the self closing catch for the slider door.

Check the catch mechanisms in the door and see if they are open wide. Pushing a screw driver into the catch is the best way to check for proper mechanical movement and engagement. The catch should close around the screw driver end.

Dirt/Moisture will make the catch stick and prevent proper engagement. Spraying the mechanism with Brake Cleaner will clean the greasy debris, relube with a lithium grease spray and then operate the door a few times to get the lube into the mechanisms nooks/crannys.


If the lock is frozen, get your Deli into an underground parkade....Market Mall has a ceiling height of 7'4" and my L400 fits in there, great for thawing out frozen doors and wiper arms.

The BB is right. I had a problem with my auto-lock mechanism not working on the slider - the contacts on the B pillar and the mating piece on the door itself were cruddy.

I would only add to check that the spring loaded mechanism on the door part is moving as it should. Mine was ceased, and as a result the contacts weren't contacting. I wiggled it free, and followed up with some vaseline - not sure if this is a good idea, but it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks so much to those that replied! My kid always says "why don't you just take it to a mechanic?", but you guys have much more Delica experience and better advice than any mechanic where I live!
