I saw this post on the UK site. http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopi ... highlight= It is talking about removing and closing up the vacuum hose on the EGR valve and that this solved their smoking off the line problem...no blanking though. This was done by a Mitsubishi mechanic.

I have been meaning to clean my EGR valve to hopefully reduce some smoking that I'm getting but haven't got there yet. I thought I would do that first and then if that doesn't work look into something like blanking or maybe this vacuum hose thing.

What do people think about this?

My vote is to clean it out and get it working properly, if not for a mechanical reason, then for environmental reasons. Less pollution can only be a good thing.

Just to completely beat the EGR valve horse to death here...if my EGR valve was gummed up and not working properly then would I expect to see a result of more black smoke? I guess if the valve is stuck open then I would see more black smoke and if it was stuck closed I would see less smoke. Which in my case I see more black smoke so then my EGR valve should be stuck open...right?
