LED Bulb Installation For Tail Lights

Post by Left Coast Bill »

Hi,

Has anyone upgraded to LED tail lights on their L400? I have a 1997 model and want to install them but was not sure if the flasher unit will need to be changed because of the change in the resistance they will cause. Also, can anyone tell me where the flasher unit might be located in a 1997 L400?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Cheers!

Either change the flasher unit or add in-line resistors. There are baggy kits of resistors specifically for LED lamps, usually hanging right next to them.

I can't find it now, but there was a website that catalogued suitable replacement LED flasher relays for traditional relays: enter the original part number it tells you what LED one will work. That might be a route to pursue.

And yes, the resistors don't always work, unfortunately, and I can't remember why - has to do with loading the circuit.
