Help removing an auto hub

Sorry for the nob question, but my research and best efforts have failed.

How do I get the hubcap off? I've tried prying and whacking with a chisel. I know what to do once it's off, but can't get in there.

Thanks very much in advance.

The smaller outer cap should just pop off with a small pry bar or large screw driver. It may be a bit snug from sitting, but other than that it's just stuck on there. Once that is off there will be a small circlip that holds the axle inside the hub, for this you will need either snap ring pliers or two picks to draw it off.

Also note that this is not a free-running hub like what most "auto locking" hubs are. On this style the front axle engagement takes place inside the transfer case, and when in RWD the front axle will still turn with the wheel.

Thanks ever so much for the help Dino. I saw a nice series of photos on mdocuk and it looked easy. Glad to know that its just a matter of it popping off, and that I am not missing something crucial.
