Hey there folks,

I'm down in Michigan from Ontario visiting my sis. The Deli ran mint & apart from imbibing on the cheap liquor, I've been busy researching Thule Roof Racks here on this site. I've purchased a set being delivered to my sisters address tomorrow. Yay!!

So the next question is, how hard is it find a nice Terzo ladder for my rig?? The new Thule bars will be great for my kayak. But if I can't get up to the new roof rack, what's the point right??

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place?? I've put an ad up here sourcing a ladder but to no avail....

Any recommendations?? Maybe something from the west coast?? She's a long way up there and I can't go it alone....

Thanks guys. The link you supplied to the one on Vancouver Craigslist looks perfect. And that seems like a totally fair price.. The ad says its for an L300 or L400. I didn't think these ladders were that universal and only fit certain models?

Anyway, I sent a message to the seller. If it will fit, I wanna buy it. Hopefully this works out.

Dunno about fitting L300 and L400, but do know that ladders for L300 are different for low roof vs high roof (not intechangeable). Terzo are bulkier as wider tubing used, mine is something japanese with skinnier tubing so less window obstruction (nice for shoulder checks while driving) but harder on bare feet as almost too skinny.

Make sure you use a bit of old inner tubing where the ladder touches the paint (where it curves into the door top to hold in place there, and also where it rests against the door at the bottom but doesnt touch the plastic bumper or you won't be able to open the door.

I mostly use the step platform that fits into my trailer hitch, much easier to stand on. Only use the ladder on big trips to access tie downs for gear and canoes, or to zap strap the portable shower to.

Have him photograph the ladder next to a yardstick so you can see how long it is. Can't tell from photo.

Later, some folks find the weight of the ladder is hard on the gas shocks, hatch door won't stay up on its own for some tired old shocks, some buy new shocks, some just add an adjustable pole from a tent or tarp to use while cooking etc.

Maybe someone from Whistler could look at it for you???

Its a done deal!! The seller actually put a tape measure to it and emailed a pic to me as I told him I thought it might be for a low roof. He's thinking the way you are Tardis..I'm still quite new to all of this but this is exactly what I was looking for.

He's working out the shipping which might be a little expensive to Ontario. But the price on the ladder was good. And that's how I'm justifying it to myself.

For shipping, check Greyhound Ground, used to be the cheapest. Cheaper if it is delivered to a greyhound bus depot near you, and not to your house.

Canada Post is cheap for packages, but not sure what their max length of parcel is.

So since visiting my sister in Michigan, I was able to get a set of Thule roof racks down there at a great price. I installed them in her driveway. I worked out a great deal on the ladder (thanks to you guys) And pretty soon, I'll be heading out with my kayak in tow for the summer season... Sweeeeet!!

And a foot note which you guys might find interesting.... Going into the US at customs, one of the friendly staffers commented that my vehicle was some sort of VW and it was loaded with drugs!!! And all I could say was its not a VW and its not loaded with drugs today.. Going back into Canada was pretty classic as well. I tried handing my passport to the nice man in the booth but my arm wasn't long enough to reach him. He got pretty mad and insisted I un buckle as he wasn't prepared to move one inch off of his seat.. Anything to declare? He asks. Yep, I had a great time in Michigan and my Volkswagen ran mint the whole time...
