Exhaust flex

Getting my exhaust done, is it necessary it to re-install another flex pipe after the header? Or will it be able to move around enough? I'm going 2.5" side exit with a 12" straight through baffle.

Mine was done without flex, just cut the first inch off the old original L300 muffler to use for the connection to vehicle and weld to the new pipe, but do need an extra hanger to keep it secure with the delica vibe (vibration). CHristine.

I was told by someone who has made quite a few side exit exhausts for the L400 that it needs the flex. Not sure why.... Maybe the welds may crack or maybe it will just rattle loud. I just cut out my old muffler last week. I stayed 2 1/4''. Big difference but then again these aren't race cars.

If the original spring anchors are retained at the manifold, you should be fine. You should still be using "insolated hangers" down stream regardless. (rubber donuts with steel straps on them) you could reuse/adapt the old stock ones as well. I adapted the rear stock hanger to my transmission support with a muffler u-clamp for my side exhaust.

Keep the flexi, it reduces vibration at the manifold/head which can lead to cracking.

Thanks everyone! I ended up with a short piece of 2.5" off the turbo into a flex, through a 13" Magnaflow and out the back with a 3" chrome tip. Everything underneath is stainless and beautifully welded by the fellas at Noyz Boyz here in Toronto. It sounds effing awesome!
