I read this in the Friday, 3rd of May, 2012 issue, page 21 "Opinions"*:
  • Drivers beware: New rules
    sure to deprive your rights

Check out Bill 52, Motor Vehicle Amendment Act No.2 - 2012.

Wait until the motoring public finds that they're going to lose
their right to a trial if they receive a police issued ticket, but
    apparently still get penalty points.

If these "tribunals" operate anything like the parking ticket
ones, there will be a lower standard of proof. The legislation
also appears to penalize only B.C. drivers in terms of losing
their right to a trial; out of province and foreign license holders
are not subject to the to the new tribunals; presumably they
would receive a standard ticket and be entitled to have a trial
    before a judge.

The current government has also given B.C. Transit the ability
to set up special "courts" to remove the right of users to dispute
their tickets before a judge or ask for a reduced fine.

We seem to be on some sort of slippery slope here. How far can
we go in terms of depriving citizens of their right to ask a judge
to rule on a matter versus a government appointee?

I'm not worried about transit, when I've been given a ticket, I just tell them I have no ID and provide a fake name. I've never bother to take a traffic violation to court (even when I had reason to) but the knowledge that the option no longer exists is scary! Don't we have enough corruption as-is?

So that's it? No one else has an opinion? Does this not concern anyone?

leave it to the current government to take away another of our rights.
everyone should have the right to dispute a ticket.

I would rant on about how much I hate the BC gov, but I think i'm more pissed with all the people that didn't vote. :-x

No kidding. Have you heard that they are prioritizing joint replacements over cancer surgery now!? Christy Clark has been told that she needs to reduce wait times for joint replacement and this was her solution. Putting people's lives at risk in order to gain the elderly vote is despicable. My mum's surgery got pushed from the end of June to the end of July thanks to this decision and will probably be pushed even further forward.

What, make everyone have to vote?! Do you realise how that would change the Status Quid, I mean Quo?
