Hi Delica fans,

First off, nice site. Seems like lots of good info and cool folks.

So I'm in the market for a Delica, currently looking at a 92 SuperExceed with about 100k and most options. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to look for before I buy?

Cheers all...

Welcome aboard!

Delicat just wrote up a through list - http://www.delica.ca/forum/fresh-of-the ... -1468.html
This topic may already have been covered (partially?) but I'd like to end up with a comprehensive (but realistic) list of what all of us should do or think of doing to our "new" Delica once it comes off the boat to make them "keepers". (aside from paperwork...) I've added part number if available (more part # should be available on Wiki?). Your input would be great even if it's to correct me or add what's missing! This is what I came up with:

EGR; clean or block

Turbo Pressure; check

Tires; DOT, 235x75x15 (or 30"x9.5x15)
(If I wish to get tall and narrow tires, what would you suggest?)

Tranny oil: Take out pan, put new gasket & strainer metal filter ($25-30, '90 Montero kit),
use Destron 3 oil from Toyota (every 20-25K) How much is needed?

Timing Belt; replace at 80k (Check Injection Pump Timing after replacing belt)

Injection Pump Timing; Set at 7* w/ engine off

Engine/Tranny mounts; (only avail. from Japan?)

Clean Battery Terminal;

Brake Pad Replace; (if below 40%) Front: Raybestos, PGD349C ('90 Montero)

Rotors Machined;

Front Wheel Bearing / HUB Re-Grease;

Torsion Bars; check/adjust

Alignment;

Ball Joint; (Check / Replace)

Tie Rods / Steering Link; (Check / Replace)

Sway Bar Bushing; (replace)

All Suspension Parts; regressed.

Shock Absorber Inspection; (Check / Replace)

Coolant Flush; (Radiator Rebuild if Necessary)

Engine Flush;

Oil; Chevron Delo 400 15W40 (6.5L with new filter) or Esso XD3 15W40

Power Steering; Fluid Flush

Clutch Fluid; Flush

Brake Fluid; Flush

Gear Oil;

Differential Oil;

Transmission Fluid;

Thermostat; (Check/Replace)

Water pump; (Check/Replace)

Radiator Cap; (Check /Replace)

Power Steering Belt;

Alternator Belt;

AC Belt;

Air filter; (or K&N filter 38-9207); replace

Fuel Filter; Change

Oil Filter; Change (FRAM> PH6355 or NAPA> 1067)

Change Muffler or Pipes when needed.

New Wipers Installed

All Hinges Greased

All compliance items (headlights, DRL, reflectors...)

Is it worth to do undercoating for rust prevention?

What am I missing and where am I wasting my time (and $$$) ???
Thanks,
D.
This guys been doing his reading! I agree, though inspect all wear items at first and check all fluids before first driving away.

- timing belts should always be done IMO to.

- Ccauto has engine mounts in stock, seen them.

- My Delicas both had very dry wheel bearings, sagging torsion bars, shot sway arm bushings, and fresh RHD's should always have a front end alignment.

- We have undercoated both of ours, these vans are keepers. Also some come over to Canada so rust free it's amazing. Mine was totally rust free, it was amazing, and BC backroads are start make there mark in the wheel wells.

Great list again, I'll have to see if that's in the Wiki!

Isn't there's at least 2 Delica's on Denman already, any on Hornby? Check out - Facebook's Denman Island School Alumni (I'm in the class photo's from the 70's).
