Going on a pretty long road trip in a few weeks and coming to the realization I need some extra space for when I will have a near full van. Any suggestions on roof baskets? Right now I am considering the Sport Rack ones and the full basket offered by maximum overdrive. Anyway have any experience with either of these? Any others I should consider? I would prefer a basket that is pretty easy to put on and take off as I only really want it on for trips like this.

Once you have it on you will probably like it enough to always keep it on. Remember... Underground parking is for pussies. haha jk

My suggestion on roof baskets - take it easy on the corners. It's crazy how much stuff some people pile on top of their vans.

I know it's not practical in many situations and for many people, but have you seriously considered a small utility trailer?

I like my rack. I have a sport rack model which I extended. I rarely put super heavy stuff up there. My table , lawn chairs and big bag of beach lake toys. Rest gets thrown in the boat :). Or our little trailer.

I like the trailer for different situations. Hate finding parking in the city while towing it. But that goes the same for the boat etc.

I got a fairly robust roof rack/basket from Maximum Overdrive last year. I love it. I keep the weight as low as I can, but for big bulky stuff it is the best - lawn chairs, shade tent, table, solar panel, plastic tubs filled with camping gear, inflatables, etc, and sometimes the propane tank goes up there too :)

I wouldn't worry about the corners, I travel with 3 - 25L jerry cans up there along with various other equipment and it definitely leans more, but doesn't feel unsafe. It's not a sports car, don't try to drift unless there's snow.

I agree. If your suspension has been done correctly corners should not be an issue. If it has and still is then redoe your sway bar links and bushes. Should help some. If its still is then slow down and quit packing so much gear.. less is more. Heavy stuff low light stuff on the rack.
