Transmission woes

I have a 1998 Spacegear with 3.0V6 gas engine and auto transmission. When lifting off the throttle and slowing down up to a stop the transmission will down shift hard, the neutral light starts flashing and a code 34 is stored in the transmission ECU. There is a four pin relay on the side of the transmission ECU that turns off immediately before this all happens ??? Anyone with any ideas or suggestions as to why ?? I`m completely ripping my hair out
