AC radiator relocation?

Just wondering if anyone has done this? I've seen (via the search function) that it seems easy enough on the L300 but I was nosing around underneath the other day and there doesn't seem any way to move the radiator higher. Without the running boards on it looks like it would be the lowest thing under there, waiting to be destroyed.

It requires a lot more work than relocating the transmission cooler. Most will move the transmission cooler up, remove the AC and remove the AC belt to increase power by decreasing parasitic loss.

Bummer. I can't get rid of the AC though. Sitting in Toronto mid summer traffic it's a total necessity. Hmm, maybe I'll lay under there for a couple hours and have a think.

That's why I haven't removed mine. I'm confused though, you have an L400 and L300?

No no, I just have the L400. I just thought I read that it was straightforward on the L300 but that must've been the trans cooler I was reading about. The L400 does have flex hoses going to it so it could be relocated somewhere very close but the back is already right up against the subframe so it can't even be raised.

Ah, sounds tricky. Yeah, the L300 isn't overly easy to do, but sounds like it's easier than the 400.

Aren't most things?

Hi there,
If you move your AC condenser (radiator) you run the risk getting improper airflow through it. Improper airflow over the condenser means that your R134a coolant won't turn into liquid like it's supposed to and thus creating more problems in the AC system like higher pressures and compressor overheating. If you move it make sure you get good airflow. Not really sure you can move it anyway without cracking into the system. Aren't there rigid lines going into the condenser? If you do decide to crack into the system and move stuff around be sure to go to a shop and recover the R134a beforehand. That stuff isn't good for the environment. It is a little better than the old R12 but still very bad. I don't have a Delica yet so I'm not totally sure of the setup but I'ld be careful not to disturb the system, shops will charge quite a bit of cash once they hear "AC won't get cold". I think it's because not very many people know how the system works and you need special equipment for recharging. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck
