More foolish questions...

I've been trying to figure out the difference between a high roof and a low roof, and not able to see any difference from any pictures. Is this a matter of inches or something more? I did come across pix of a Deli with a very high roof made out of fibreglass...is this a high roof?

What about camperized versions? What makes them camperized? Bed? Fridge? Stove?

I also remember coming across a thread about comparisons between automatic and five speed transmissions but damned if I can find it again. I favour a manual, but haven't heard good things about it. Thoughts, anybody?

Just over a month to go before I head west and start looking for a Deli to call my own.

I would never get a manual transmission again. To lowly geared. Crappy highway speed. I love my new auto tranny and I am used to manual transmissions.

Make a point of making the CVI Customer Appreciation Day event on Saturday, 27th of July (see: http://www.delica.ca/forum/cvis-6th-ann ... 14761.html). You will find all manner of Delicas, as well as much Delica wisdom. Also consider the Delica Mini-Meet at Spanish Banks (Far end of English Bay on the south side) on Thursday evening, 1st of August (see: http://www.delica.ca/forum/august-1st-s ... 14429.html).

That's right in the thick of my move, and on the mainland to boot, but we shall see. I understand Delica meetups (Deli-meats?) are everywhere.

High vs low roof? - yes the difference is subtle - a matter of inches. First image:low, second image:high.

I prefer the looks of the high, and you get a little more interior space. The low roof gets you into a lot more underground parking lots. It might make a difference if you are trying to load a canoe on top of your van.

Wow...that's not that much of a difference, from what I can tell. Does it make a difference in practice? Headroom? I'm tall...it could make a difference.

It actually does make quite a difference. In a camperized low roof it's difficult to sit-up in bed, but a high roof is no problem.

A high roof is quite roomy for a tall person. I am 6'2 and have no issues with whacking my head on anything other than the tailgate. I got the Crystal Lite roof to keep my daughter happy on long trips- plus it just looks cool.

Hah! Not so much over here on the Island, and then especially not up this end. There are delicas about though, and some might be happy to show you around their rig. I'm assuming you're looking for a newer, L-400 model? I'm not too far away in Campbell river, and would be happy to let you have a look at my bus, but it's an older, and way cooler, L-300.
Hey, good luck with your move and new situation in Comox. It's pretty nice up here...

Two weeks ago today, I was actually in Campbell River! We had a look around and had a pizza at Panago, but otherwise, we were just there for a short look around. Didn't see any Delis though...but there were two L400s at the liquor store in Courtenay later that evening...I did ask the gentleman getting inside it a couple of questions. Seems he was running what looked like an outfitters company or summat.

Another thing you will learn from being around here is that these vans are open to interpretation. L300's and L400's are different and each have their own charms. L300 owners really like to let you know about it though. I think it is a over-compensation thing. :-)

I think each model has its charms, and I can understand how the owners of each can be proud of their respective vehicles. I tend to get attached to my vehicles myself, so well understood. I happen to like the look of the L400 because it seems more swoopy and less van-like. I also like the engine-up-front, open the hood for practical reasons.

Which version of the Deli do you have? I see 1990, so I'm assuming L300. How about the L400s?
