Hello from Antigonish Nova Scotia

Post by Jimtownwest »

Hello Delica.ca,

Let me introduce myself, Adam McCannel from Anitgonish Nova Scotia, formally from Campbell River, BC. East Coast met West Coast and the maritimes is now my home. Just purchased my new to me 1995 SWB Exceed L400 5 speed with 83 kms. Already love the van, it is replacing my 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD... this was the only "mini" van I would consider as my wife and I are expanding our household, awesome! My other car is a 2005 Jetta TDi wagon, so I am already an avowed diesel convert. I have some mechanical knowledge, enough to be aware of what I should not undertake.

I have already replaced the factory stereo, and will replace the speakers as I blow them! Looking foreword to learning from the vast amount of knowledgable people in this community and have been reading a lot of posts already. My deli was a curb side deal, but I have to say spotless... I have never seen an engine that clean before. That being said, I am planning a series of mods to keep this van going for a long time.

EGR blanking... Am going to order the plates this week.

Pyro. I plan on towing occasionally so this is a must, along with a hitch receiver.

Aftermarket Radiator. Mine came with the stock rad... I have little faith in plastic covered rads, any suggestions as to a good replacement? I found Tigweld.uk and they have an aluminum one that I am considering.

Larger Exhaust. I will price this out, but the current exhaust is in great shape, I might wait until the rust and maritime salt take their toll.

Electronic rust inhibitor. Already under coated the van, but taking this extra step, anyone familiar with Nova Scotia will know that our highways dept uses salt in place of sand for winter conditions.

WVO fuel system. This is another must, I work 75kms from my home as a Paramedic and fuel costs are a real kicker. Ran the numbers and it just makes sense, converting the Jetta as well. Already have one source for oil and have not seen any greasers in my area, so why not start a trend. Looking for an kit with a belly mounted tank (I will probably get a custom tank and add it to a stock kit, would appreciate any tips or feedback), I love keeping the cargo room free.

If there are any other mods that you think I should consider please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, Cheers, Adam McCannel 95 5speed Exceed.

Go to tdiclub.com and you will see there are numerous problems with running veggie oil on a tdi. Basically the rings coke and stop moving in the grooves and wear out the cylinder. I would not be converting the tdi for sure.
