Hi all,

Bought a Delica 2 wks ago, waiting as everyone else for the trip oversea and started planning on what to do once I get her.

Can anyone give me an idea of what's reasonnable to pay for the must do and what I should be able to do on my own? (I've own 60's and 70's VW vans for years so I've had to learn some...)

Flush/refill all fluids. (almost none of those in old VW...soooo easy! and cold!)

Change all belts including timing belt. (too much for me to take on?)

Change all lubes/filters (easy enough?)

Repack front hub (need special tools?)

I think I should be fine to do the compliance items unless it's trickier than I think.

Any hints and tips would be great.

Well you can save ALOT of money by doing the work your self, some people are able to do this and other want it done for them. I dont do work on Delicas, only my own, but I sell all the servicing parts. a water pump is very easy to replace. ballancer belt and bearings are also easy, but the timing belt is very Very specific so if your unsure, have your mechanic do the work.
if your coolant is decent looking, then you can probably change it your self, but if its the Oh so comon gross color with floaties, then I would have it HOT FLUSHED. Get a grease gun and grease all the nipples you can find, they are everywhere, and this will have you getting to know your van as you should , and not translated from a mechanic into dollar amounts.

don't forget to grease the nipples on the DRIVE SHAFT U-Joints.
Get that oil changed, do it your self if you can, again so you can get to know your van. Motor mounts and trans mounts are also a comon thing that need replacement.
again not to hard to swap if you have the time and ability.

Just checking some more in the archives to figure out what I can do but point taken... timing belt will be done by Mr. Mechanic.
