[picture request] time to start getting pumped, need pics

Hey guys.

After years of wanting a Delica, it occurred to me the other day that, thanks to our "25 year rule" down here in the States, a 1990 P53W will finally be "safe" and "clean" enough to meet our world class safety and emissions standards in less than two years.

That's just enough time to get my ish together and prepare to actually own a Delica. I need to remain vigilant, to keep myself pumped. I'm going to be building a "vision board" filled with pictures of things I want. I'm looking for a couple specific Delica pictures. Can you help me out?

Specifically, here's what I'm after:

1. a picture from the driver's seat, that you can tell was only taken in a Delica, with some kind of epic view
2. a picture of a white, P53W somewhere epic

Gonna print these out and put them up on my front door at the house, in my cube at the office, maybe even on the speedo on my Pajero.

Appreciate the support!

Oh yeah. If that truck wasn't so far away - and built so far beyond my needs - I'd be all over it.

Thanks for the tip, though. Great idea!

I think you mean P35 ;) and also the P25 which is the low roof model.

You are SO right. That's exactly what I mean.

I've wanted a Delica for years. Now that the 25 year rule is about to expire on that dream, it's time to get serious about making it come true. Pretty much resolved to get a white, crystal roof, turbo-diesel, 4WD, with a manual gearbox. And, though I suspect I might be able to import directly to Arizona and save some coin, I kinda see myself flying into Canada and test driving on a Delica.ca trip to learn the ropes with experts before driving it home.

I'll have to get another one of these, too: :M

Manuals are a bit rarer than autos and have their downsides, so its worth researching that too. Saying that I've only ever had my auto so never driven the manual or lived with one. White ones do look cool, but I certainly wouldnt rule out others as at the age etc I would be much happier finding the best L300 I could, and worrying about the color later! And likewise for the manual vs auto. But either way good luck in your search!

I assume you could also import from Japan directly?

Good points. I'll have to start doing some deeper research into potential issues with the manual gearboxes, but my experience with older Mitsubishis has always been that the automatics are more complicated and deliver poorer fuel economy.

Quality is, of course most important, but you gotta visualize the win, right? Thus my asking for pictures. :-D

In this case it's the other way 'round with respect to fuel economy at any rate. The manuals are lower geared than the autos so rev way higher on the highway. Not sure about reliability, though I haven't heard of too many transmission issues either way.
Good luck with finding the right bus.
You might find some good ones for sale in Canada...

Why wait so long? My 1989 Delica might be for sale...

Personally I like the manual little slower top end but way way less heat...

No crystal light roof...but definitely a high roof!!!!

@Kona - Good to know about the fuel economy. Surprise to me! I also like the simple, clean look of your truck. Very nice.

@Jack - It's temping, but A) I've wanted a facelifted Crystal Roof for years. I've waited this long. I can wait a bit longer. B) Epic though your rig is, it's a bit more overland than I'm after at this point. Maybe someday I'll go crazy and build my own EarthCruiser!

Nicely done, though. If I hadn't seen your build thread, I would have thought it came that way!

Just remember the headlights on the facelifted 300 do not work...Anyone who drives in this one wants the old square headlights (4 square hella's make it into daylight)...

I too love the glass roof (just a little to wet where I live for the glass roof)

As I've said, I dont know much about the manuals having not had one, but from what I have read the 5th gear in the manual box is weak and needs to be treated gently, related to the input shaft and the 5th gear being arranged such that high loads can cause some bearings to fail or something. Pretty sure its covered here somewhere or if not on the UK site with PinkPigs gearbox failure issues.

Good to know, Jimbo. Appreciate the head's up.

Did a quick Google, found PinkPig's thread. Looks like the issue is related to 5th gear being added to a box originally designed for just four, and hard use of 5th can cause excessive wear - if the bearings don't just wear out on their own. Good to know. Thank you.

Anyone in here know about a Delica buyer's guide anywhere I could check out? Maybe I should try writing one?

DR1665 - Where 'bouts in Phx do you live? How long have you lived there?

I know it's a little off topic but I spent 18 years in the Fry-Pan. Kinda Curious - Not to mention I will take a pic from of the Cab View for you.

Maybe start the list of things that may need addressing. Most of have dealt with them. Here are the few I've had.

Tires
Leaks (not in Arizona though)
Suspension (mods vs. stock)
Bull bars (down there we used to call them Cactus Mashers)
Reg Maintenance (Belts {timing and water pump}, brakes, Etc)

Hey Shaun,

I live in Glendale, 51st Ave & Thunderbird. We're thinking about moving before our little one starts school. Kinda want to check out Toronto, but my wife is a zonie - born and raised here. Hard to sell the cold weather! Probably end up in Denver or Portland.

Thanks for offering to grab that picture for me. I want to visualize being behind the wheel!

More later, as I'm posting from an android at the moment. No bueno!
