Hi Everyone

Just wondering if anyone can tell me whether the Delicas that DON'T come with driving/fog lights are still wired for them with a switch on the dash board. If not, how hard is it to install an aftermarket set? Also, how about putting in a new stereo deck. Are there wiring harnesses available or can wires be spliced together with ease?

I can't say what they are equipped with when no fog lights are present, however I can tell you that running wires should be pretty straightforward, there are grommets in the footwells at the front of the vehicle that lead to the underside, allowing wires to be passed through with ease (have done a few for various things myself)

as for the stereo, it is my understanding that a standard mitsubishi harness is available.

Don't know if they are all wired for the fog lights. Your's may have had them and the light removed but the rest is still in place. The factory switch is to the right of the steering column, by the rear defroster, rear heat, tailgate lock.

Installing should be no harder than in any other vehicle. Will find out when I add my own driving lights, since I already have fog lights.

if the van doesnt have fogs, and no switch, it probably isnt wired for it, some have them and some do not. its wierd. but it is a really simple undertaking, and i have seen some bad attempts ie, wires running on top of the carpet beneath the floor mats, 5 sperate pieces of wire twisted together, you know a bogus job.

sid. sometimes it is good to just re wire it properly with fuse etc, then you know its right.

I've read that you can add any kind of lights as long as they don't draw more than 55W which the electrical system is set up for. I don't quite understand how it works, but some systems can have much higher wattage ratings and only draw 55W actual power.

As for the wiring harness, the A&B Sound install guys here in North Van had the part number memorized and agree it's an early 1990's Dodge Import harness (made by Mitsubishi for Dodge) - mine was from a Dodge Colt (again, made by Mitsubishi on contract for Dodge).

It isn't a vehicle thing, it's a legal thing. You aren't allowed to install more than 2 aux driving lights, each drawing max 55w. And no more than 2 fog lights, again each drawing max 55w. And never more than a total of 2 additional lights ON at any one time. But normally, you would want the fogs relay connected on low beam, driving on high beam. (Although Alberta law allows fogs to be on without low beam when conditions warrant.)

Should be amusing when LED lights come out. Can you imagine the light you would get from 55 watts of LED? Guess they'll eventually change the law to indicate lumens of output instead.

LED fog/driving lights are here. APC has some, so does Piaa. They are still very expensive, but I saw some on ebay and they are like $40-$50.00 a pair. There are LED version of H3 bulbs as well.

I have the stock DOT headlights (where the low beams are behind that weird "sphere" bulb) and big yellow fog lights. They all worked good except the low beams were really weak. I replaced them with $80 PIAA ultrawhite H3 whatever bulbs which didn't help much at all. So I added $30 driving lights from canadian tire to the bottom of the plastic part of the brush guard. They work pretty good, I would recommend doing the same to anyone wanting better driving lights, but I would recommend not cheaping out on the $30 ones and getting something of better quality, the plastic mounting bits on the cheap ones are horrible :)

I found it fairly easy to run the hot wire from the bumper down and up through the rubber grommet into the cab near the fuse box and hooked it up there with a switch.

Does anyone know where I could get new lenses and bulbs to convert my fog lights to driving lights? I don't have to deal with fog often and I've found they don't work all that great in fog anyways..
