Installing a Water Temp Sensor in an L400 - Location? Size?

I am looking at installing a temp sensor for my water temp (to get an exact figure) and one of the problems I realized is that I have no idea where to put the probe.

Also, I can't begin to guess at the correct size of line I should be installing the probe into!

I know that I can likely use one of the following:

And get the job done. But for the Cooling system for the 4M40, where would the best location be? Does anyone know the hose size?

I have been able to find suitable new radiator hoses online - but none list their size.

I am not confident I can measure the hoses in my Delica accurately without making an error; my concern is, if I get the size wrong and cut the hose, well, I will be offline for a bit while I await a new hose!

Any idea on the hose size? (I am still googling, but coming up empty).

After more googling; seems to be 35 mm according to the Oz site!

The more you know!
(And when you finally figure out the right search terms).

So, in the end I went with the 36mm adapter. I figured that there is a risk of the 34 mm being too small, and only 1mm larger for the 36mm adapter should still work for the 35mm hose in the Delica.

I already have the water sensor with my 3-in-one Diesel combo gauge.

I'm eager to read more about this as I'm planning on getting some performance mods done on my L400...

Lower rad hose is the best place to splice it in. Upper has better access, but you end up getting the temp before the coolant runs through the rad so it is very high. This is where I have it, good for seeing spikes and driving accordingly, but not ideal. I only put it there as the mechanical gauge cable was too short for lower. Lower rad hose will show you the temp coming out the rad so you will know if it is keeping the temps down.

Where is the best place to get a good reading on the block? Before the thermostat opens, anywhere in the regular feed won't register a change until it opens.
