Block heater mess

I figured it was time to get a block heater put in to the L400
I had done the L300 myself but due to my health figured it would
Be less stress to get a shop to do it.
I printed off a few pictures showing the frost plug, what should
Or could be removed to ease access ie air box and picked up the
Right block heater. Booked it in and.....
Lazy mechanic. He didn't want to go in from the top, said it was
impossible. I got the immediate impression he's one of those
guys who likes his hoist. Time I got there he had the exhaust off
as well as well as all the right wheel ,made a mess of my drl's
And who knows what else. A 1.5 hour job turned into a f@'k show.
Being as I was supposed to head to Edmonton I arranged a different
vehicle and left. I let the owner and manager know I wasn't happy
at all and his mechanic turned it into a big hour job and it didn't need
to be. Not sure what the bill is going to be.
Guess I should have done it myself regardless. I'm sure I'm going to
have to go in and fix my lighting/wiring.

That sucks man. Around our parts I think that mechanics are like a bad Forrest Gump quote, "..you never know what your gonna get". I replaced the block heater cord this spring and it is quite reachable from the top, not sure why wisdom allowed that guy to go in from the bottom. Mardy had already installed the actual heater into the frost plug location, I just replaced the cord because SOMEONE forgot to unplug it and drove away. Next time bring it here and I will help tinker with it. I find that, just like when I play pool, my skills dramatically improve with more beer... for a very limited time.

Yah...a beer or 4 helps with any tinkering or installations on these vans. We took the Subaru to Edmonton this trip.

Went to pay the bill yesterday and it seems my chat with them
on friday went a long ways. I was only billed for an hour of labor.
The manager said yes, it was doable from the top although trying
to dig a frost plug out might have been damn tough.

Happier now...
