our van has been stuttering on startup recently, still starts every time and easily but not as smooth as it has been in the previous 2 winters. I removed and cleaned the busbar and removed the glow plugs as well, there was a thin build up of carbon on the glowplug tip it wiped away easily and I re-installed the plug as I don't have replacements now. The van now starts smoothly again, leading me to belive the plugs are still good.
Should I be concerned about the carbon on the glowplugs?

Hi the most likely possibility is that your bus bar
Connections were corroded . By removing the glow plugs
You fixed that and proper power was allowed to get to the
Plugs
