Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
Hi Deli-ites, The 4X4 Toy Run is this Sunday 2 December, Let's ALL Go!
Depart 9:30am from Guildford Mall to Bear Creek Park in Surrey. My geography a bit vague, but 1/2 hour drive i guess. Bring an unwrapped gift and food bank donation. Pancake breakfast after by donation. Meet South East corner of Guildford near Walmart. Prizes for best decorated vehicle (I knew my inverter would be useful, Christmas lights are a go!).
Web says All vehicles welcome, 2wd 4wd 6wd so lets ALL attend, even the delica-less, and meet up. We have space for 2 more people in our deli. Who wants to convoy? We will enter the freeway at Gaglardi in Burnaby at 9 am.
Afterwards, after we all snoop around each others modifications, maybe plan a New Years Day Delica Convoy.
See you all there, Christine of the Tardis Deli.
I have pasted the blurb below, and the url http://bb.bc4x4.com/calendar.php?do=get ... 2&e=43&c=1
"MAKE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL FOR A KID
Start off this Christmas season on the right foot.
Over the past few years there has been a declining participation in the annual Toy Run. Kind of strange considering how well our economy is doing! So let's turn things around this year!!!
As usual, the Sasquatch 4x4 club is hosting the event and they would like to get at least 100 vehicles showing up for the run this year. So this year, they would like everyone to bring a fourwheeling friend along to boost the numbers. BC4x4 also encourages everyone to show up and support this cause. Let's all help make it a great Christmas for the kids.
WHEN: December 2, 2007, 9:30am
WHERE: Southeast corner of Guildford Parking Lot (near Walmart)
BRING: Unwrapped new toy for the Christmas Bureau and non-perishable food for the food bank. Don't forget the older kids, too!
An award will be given for the best decorated vehicle.
All vehicles are welcome (2wd, 4wd, 6wd! - everything).
All vehicles will convoy from Guildford to Bear Creak Park where they will drop-off their toys/non perishable foods and join the pancake breakfast (by donation) prepared by the North Surrey Lions Club."

Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
Be carefull on the xmas lights. It is illegal. I remember the RCMP handing out tickets (along with the MVI) to everyone that had them on there one year (the last time I went). Feel free to mount them, (still illegal) but be sure not to turn them on untill you are in the parking lot.
Anyhow, all things considered I am thinking I will still brave the risk of an MVI (I have nothing to fear) and show up too. I was thinking (as per my thread in the DelicaMeet section) of meeting at the Braid skytrain station parking lot in the morning and leaving there at 9 for the drive to guilford. No one seemed to keen on joining though.

I don't know about the organizers of that event... they should be able to get the police on-board, it's a charity event after all! around here that type of event would more likely have a police escort than a police crackdown!

The kids and I plan to show up this Sunday (unfortunately, still driving a Honda and not a Delica), but may be hitching a ride in the legendary Tardis if the car seat thing works out.
Also, I still have a handful of official Mitsumaple decals (
) designed an created by Bruce, aka Mystery Machine), and will plan to distribute these to anybody who shows up for this great cause...

KEEP IN MIND, THIS INFO IS FROM MY LAST EXPERIENCE WHICH WAS MANY YEARS AGO AND FROM SECOND HAND INFO REGARDING RECENT YEARSGreen1 wrote:I don't know about the organizers of that event... they should be able to get the police on-board, it's a charity event after all! around here that type of event would more likely have a police escort than a police crackdown!
They were trying for the police escort before when it first started. The police showed up alright but not to escort, they were there to police. Stuff like making sure no one went through yellow lights, make sure the vehicles got an MVI, make sure everyone behaved, etc. The motorcycle toy run gets a police escort though.

Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
it's all about how the organizers deal with the police... I've seen all sorts of convoys get police escorts around here, but you have to deal with them nicely, and depending on the situation there is a cost involved.
I had a lot of fun participating in a similar event in Calgary a couple weeks ago, Operation Christmas Child... we had a full police escort closing off intersections for us and everything, granted we were a parade of over 50 ambulances... so we had the right contacts
(I tell you, 54 Ambulaces, a dozen police cars , and 2 helicopters makes quite the convoy... got a lot of attenion on our loop through downtown, especially being that we were running full lights and sirens....
)
Operation Christmas Child collects "shoe boxes" of gifts destined for kids in third world countries, they are put together by school-kids, and we collect them from the schools in Ambulances from a dozen or more different services, then we do a "parade" from stampede park, through downtown and to the sorting warehouse near the airport.

Were you driving your Delica in the parade?
Maybe next year you could arrange that besides ambulances, we could take the Delicas in Calgary to the parade... That would be cool!

Fabio

Hi Deli-Ites, We will leave Braid Street station 9am as EricN suggested, and Meet up there from 8:30am for a meet n greet. My apologies to Eric, I didnt see that he had already posted this idea (sorry I got so excited at the idea of a Deli-Convoy). I have pasted his original notice below.
If your time is limited, meet at 9:30 at Guildford near Walmart, Then if you don't have time for the Run/Parade at least we get a photo for the Christmas cards.
If you havent decorated tie a red ribbon on the Bambi Bars.
Anyone from out of town welcome to stay over (first arrival gets the spare bedroom, next arrival get the sofa, next arrival sleep in your delica parked in our yard with a heater plugged in). Burnaby near Gaglardi exit. Email for contact info.
Pancake breakfast after organized by the 4x4 club.
Cheers, Christine of the Tardis.

Original email From EricN:
Ok, found out today. It is December 2nd, 9:30am at Guilford mall in the South East parking lot by Walmart. If everyone wants to meet somewhere first and drive there together that would be fine. I am not sure on breakfast since we would have to be leaving coquitlam by 9 at the latest to get there, which would mean breakfast at 7 or so and I dont think I can drag my kids up at that time. I say meet at Braid Skytrain station for around 8:30 for a meet and greet then leave at 9 for the mall then go for Lunch or let the kids play at the park after (assuming it is pouring rain and freezing cold).

Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
Sadly, no, I was driving an ambulance, I don't organize it, I just volunteer with it... They are trying to make this something from the EMS community, I think Delicas would be a non-starter (unless we had a registered ambulance service in Alberta running Delicas... hrmmm...)Were you driving your Delica in the parade?
Maybe next year you could arrange that besides ambulances, we could take the Delicas in Calgary to the parade... That would be cool!
But that's not to say that other events like that can't be arranged, there are no shortages of charities in need...

Once again, Mark proves to be not only the coolest site admin ever, but he bring gifts!
I will be terribly hungover as it's my lovely wifes Xmas party the night before, that shall mean copious amounts of alcohol shall be consumed by me in order to survive such heinous experience...and I do truly mean copious. However, that does not entirely rule out my attendance....it only makes it that much more unlikely.......in some pathetic fashion....I will try.

Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
Does anyone from North Vancouver plan to attend tomorrow's toy run?
Environment Canada's forecast for this evening is 5-10 cm more. Unfortunately, I don't have my snow tires on the Honda van (I'm STILL "between Delicas" I'm affraid), and won't risk driving if Environment Canada is correct (I'd have a couple of little passengers in car seats, otherwise I'd hitch a ride)...
My thought is that if I'm unable to show up due to weather, but if someone is coming from North Van, perhaps they could distribute
decals to the hard-core few who do show up...

Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
Hey Delica Santas, Ok, just finished decorating the TardisDeli. Easy hint: put the tinsel and christmas tree decorations on the FLAT dashboard, festive. Strung the tree lights around the curtains. Making cookies, and hot cocoa & mugs ready atop the microwave, so those that do make it will be warm & sugar buzzed. And the shovel, tow rope for non-delicas, and the rescue gear. Lets hope the weather is above zero so the roads arent icy (will NOT go if the roads icy under snow). Will check this website frequently to see who else is definitely attending. If I can't get to the Braid Street Station to meet with Ericn due to bad roads, I may just go direct to Guildford, Cheers, Christine & Jay of the TardisDeli.
Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
If there is this much snow in the morning I am going to be out. Not that I have a problem driving in the snow at all, its just that if I go tomorrow, my wife has to take the bus to work, which means she needs to walk to the bus in the snow and then from the skytrain in the snow which means I will probably be in the doghouse for a while after.

Re: Xmas07 ToyRun this Sunday 2 December
Looking out my window this morning, my van (non-Delica) won't make it up my driveway, let alone to Guilford mall.
I think the twins & I will need to take a raincheck on this one!
If anyone happens to be coming from North Vancouver (Mountain Hwy & 14th) and wanted to pick up decals + my toy/food bank donation, please let me know (604-904-3833)...
Cheers!
