Block heater

Hi. Just bought a 1995 L-400 and need to put a block heater in for our Canadian weather. I bought a pan heater but feel it may not give me the results I want. I have talked to various mechanic's and they recommend an inline circulating heater (hose has an inside diameter of 35 mils) Does anyone know where I could buy one that would fit this size of hose as the ones at the local supply stores are 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" (to small and to big)

I have the large pan heater on my L400 and it works great...and I'm in Albrrrrta too. Make sure you are using a good winter diesel additive and your glow plugs are at peak condition.


The circulating block heater of which there are 2 primary types:

Active: has a pump and heater. Can heat an engine in about 2 hours to between 25-35 degrees C when outside temps are -20C.


Passive: uses convection to encourage fluid flow. (hot rises, cold drops). No pump. This unit is available from canadian tire, parts guys keep it in the back. Must be installed very low in the engine bay to encourage proper fluid flow.

Many usually get the standard block heater and use it with the pan heater
