At long last! Greetings from the USA

Hello all up north of the border. I was just able to head up to Vancouver last week and pick up a 1989 l300 2.5 t/d lowroof exceed and am currently driving her around Portland and the west coast. It's got 103k km on her and from what I gathered was mostly city miles save for a few trips down to portland, seattle, and sasquach music festival. It's been amazing to drive and I've read here that you feel like a rockstar when driving in the states but had no idea. People in Portland love it and I can't get enough of driving it! I'm taking it down to the parents shop tomorrow to convert it to a more livable space (Bed, storage, etc.). I was wondering though, any care or driving tips? What should I be looking/listening for and looking to do to keep her running tip top for the years to come?
Thanks and I'm glad to finally be a member of the club!
-Joe

Welcome!
And Congrats!
You are right about the head-turning appeal of the Deli, they get more attention than a Ferrari down here!

Welcome to Delica Canada, JoeBillHill
It is truly amazing how beautiful women flock to you when you drive a Delica Starwagon. I have had to beat off many women as they amass around my wagon "Get back, you wild and crazy throng!", I say... A similar thing happens to Space Gear owners, as well ~ except it's usually a case of being stalked by Windstar drivers (kind of creepy, really?).

I would recommend good lane discipline; signaling before changing lanes; regular fluid changes; drive her like a diesel.
Check out this thread: http://www.delica.ca/forum/driving-a-diesel-15802.html
Another useful link as a basic guide to the website would be this one: http://www.delica.ca/forum/welcome-to-d ... -9778.html
Happy trails,
Falco.

Ha. Yes I'll have to start driving back roads/streets to keep the numbers of women down, (for road safety reasons of course). And yes I could see the windstar stalkers following their Hulk equivalent.
Anyways, I've been getting used to driving a diesel, a van, and on the right side all at the same time and its great. Plan on changing the oil today and will have to find time/a space to install a Exhaust Gauge in the near future.
Thanks for the info and I'm sure I'll be asking/looking for some more soon.

Welcome to Deli Land, Joe. There is a meet scheduled in Seattle in September. You should also touch base with the other Deli owners in Portland.

I wish I could Erich. Alas I will be in the heart of the firefighting season in Idaho and won't be able to stop in.
How often are the meets?

Thats a tasty little piece of van you got there! For driving tips, if you're not in a rush, you'll never have a problem!

Didn't see this until now but I did see your Delica parked 2 blocks from my house on Tues! Small world. I'm on 29th and Alberta. PM me if you're still in town. Want to get a closer look at that beast.

Jpk just checked back in on this. I'll be back in Oregon sometime in the late fall (hacking away at wildfires around the states till then), but definitely down for a cruise then!
