Hey there folks,,

I have a '93 Super Exceed with the Crystal Lite Roof and need to do something about my rear hatch not staying open. I don't think the struts were the greatest to begin with and I've since added a Terzo Ladder and I'm camperizing the thing and will have the rear door open more often.

I've poked around on here and found a guy who can re gas them. But he's in BC and I'm in Ontario ( if the guys still in business at all.) It was an old post. So I'm wondering if these struts are available new? Or is there something else that can work.

If you're driving a P25 (low roof) you are SOL. If you're driving a P35 (high roof) check with Amazing Autos, Mardy had a line on struts at one point. Having said that you could contact Rocky Mountain Imports and they can get you OEM replacements but they may be dear. Don't get used unless they are reconditioned, i.e.; they have been regassed.

One other point I'd like to mention ~ if we have it out here on the wet coast ~ you must surely have it at the centre of the known Canadian universe. There must be a "Strutwise" of sorts in Ontario.

I use my tailgate as a barometer. If I open it and it stays up ~ then it's camping time. If I open it and it sinks back down ~ then it's survival time, in which case I have a pair of rubber tipped (so I don't scratch the shafts) spring loaded clamps that I use to assist the struts!

Mine in a high roof so I might check with Mardy. I'll also first check to see if someone local does the re gassing. Like you said, surely it's not just a west coast thing.....

I sent my struts out to be rebuilt, they're still holding up with a ladder on the back too. Saw the company on Dinoevo.de site and called then sent them out. They did a great job.

I had mine rebuilt by Strutwise in BC. I told them I had a Terzo ladder and lived in cold climate. After more than a year, the hatch still stays up, even at -30C.
