Spare Engines with transmissions

I have contacted a business in Quebec that can ship from Japan 4d56t diesel engines out of Delicas. They clip them out of the cars that are being wrecked but the engines are good. Very low km available. Tranny, Clutch, Engine Block, Fuel Pump, Turbo, Alternator, Injectors, everything. He quoted me $1700 CAD shipped to Vancouver. I saw a post where someone was billed over $2000 to rebuild a Fuel Pump. I plan on having a complete second unit ready to swap out when there is work to be done. Then on my own time rebuild and recondition them both when they are accessable. I am thinking about getting a good engine stand and a cargo trailer to keep it in. But first a trailer hitch.

Im interested... Please let me know if your going to order as maybe a deal could be made at least on shipping if we get a few. I want a 5spd tranny with mine and if its $1700 including shipping that seems resonable.. im in!

It'll make me more confident in running Veg oil if i knew i had another drivetrain around!

I live in Quebec, and may be able to help out with the shipping of the engines to BC.
If you ever hear of them bringing in Limited Slip Differentials for the Delicas, I would be interested.
I got stuck in the sand in Mexico 2 days ago and my family werent too impressed...

Hey,

I have been thinking about it and I may be interested. It sounds like a good idea but it depends on when you do it and if I have money at the time.

I'm also not that mechanically inclined so I would have to talk to mechanic friends about it.

I to am interested, but not until the summer (financially). And I too would be interested in a limited slip dif. if anyone finds a supplier. (although I can just do that after market as well cant i?)

Limited Slip Differentials: There are a few differing opinions on which have them and which don't. Was it standard on S/Exceeds after a certain date or not? If it can be found out from the actual VIN, can someone tell me how to do this? Does anyone have any idea about how much one would cost to bring over after the fact (ballpark)? I think someone said it can be identified with a sticker- what if the sticker is gone? I know it's easy enough to check if you have the vehicle in front of you, but I'd like to know how I can track down this information for a vehicle in Japan.

Hi, mostly the importer of this engine dont have a clue what kms they got from that engine in japan. in japan poeple dont have time to record the engine mileage as they do export this engine by bulk to asia specially in the phils.were i grew up. we got lots of this engine as we are near japan & we do have many delica & pajero engine.
the only way you can guarantee the engine mileage is that when you buy the whole car & record it when scraping it.
as i am also a importer of delica & pajero. my partner in japan is also having hard time to find real mileage on the engine.
in japan they have high & low mileage engine but very hard to get the right mileage on it. as they do sell & export engine by bulk.
over here most of jap engine importer here in canada is new to this kind of business as we dont have much jap diesel engine car.
as for me its a common things for me as i deal this diesel engine back home long time ago.
hope this help:

I would be interested in a 5 spd manual if the timing is right.
