Shadyboy Awnings

Supp Folks,,

Has anyone on here had any experience with the Shadyboy Awnings?? I'm thinking of purchasing one but don't like the idea of drilling into my roof to mount the sucker..... There is a bracket you can buy from another company that let's you mount it to the rain gutter. But it's ridiculously expensive, like half the cost of the awning itself.....

I've done a search on here but didn't really see anything other than a few installed by drilling into the roof.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers, Phil

I do not, but I would avoid drilling into the roof of my van at all costs. What if you f*** up the holes??? Ack!

Egg Zactly!!!!! I actually talked to the main dude at Shadyboy and encouraged him to make brackets that would fit on the rain gutter of vans like ours and the VW's as well. He's not interested and explained to me it's a liability issue. If the thing ever flew off while cruising down the highway.......

I won't be drilling into my roof, so I suppose I probably won't be buying a Shadyboy awning either:(

I should say though, the guy seemed really nice and I understand his point. But I just though, then why not make one that won't come flying off??? I'm sure it can be done somehow.

I'm in the process of getting roof rack brackets made (hopefully). WHEN I do (positive thinking) I'm going to post the CAD file as open source so people can go get their own made. Then you'll have a rack to bolt it to!

Actually, I have a set of Thule Racks that I bought for my kayak. And yesterday I found a company that also makes awnings and other accessories for trucks and 4 by 4's. The company's called Rhino Racks and their stuff bolts neatly to all the major roof rack suppliers.

The Foxwing Awning is pretty cool. It fans out from the side of the vehicle to the rear. And there's a cool tent that can be added to the awning as well. I'm thinking if I buy one, it'll be from these guys.

Pretty sure our deeply missed friend and old member Maramiesto (sp?) Had a Shady-boy back in the day and liked it a lot. Check out his old posts or search awnings. I'm sure he posted about it.
