On my new to me 89 L300 Aero P25W the sunroof in the rear of the van works, but not quite correctly. It will open, but needs a little help at times. Also it will close by always needs help, and even when it is closed I have to push up on the right rear corner, and slide part of the mechanism forward to make sure it stays up in that corner for sealing it with the body seal. It isn't a huge pain as I know what to do to get it closed, but I would like to fix it. I have found that under the "Power Sunroof" script on the control button area there is a manual override that uses a allen wrench to close the roof in case of a dead battery or whatnot.

Does anyone have a break down of the parts on the sunroof? Anyone experience similar issues with the sunroof? If so what was your fix? Any chance I can find parts for this area if need be?

Mine was stiff when I got it. I used McLube, teflon coating available from marine stores. It is a dry lubricant, so doesn't attract grit and won't be affected by cold. Often the grease that was used has gotten thicker with time. I would also check the gaskets as they might have swelled in the area that sticks. Also there are adjustment points, stops, if you will, where the sunroof is attached. Start with the cleaning method, then proceed from there.

Tagging onto this post because, well my sunroof is having troubles. I've had the rig for a while and have been fine with having just another huge window in the back of the space ship. Recently though I've been wanting a huge sunroof and have been trying to diagnose it.
I took the window off and the motor sounds fine enough starting to move the sliders back along the track swimmingly for about 3 inches then it just seems like it hits a wall and they slow to a halt.
It moves back and forth in that section just fine but for whatever reason doesn't want to go past it, even with help from the manual override. I've looked at the tracks too and they look fine (at least no different from the first section to the second).
Any thoughts or suggestions to help along the troubleshooting?

The tracks and plastic sliders need to be clean. The last little bit of movement which pushes the glass up happens when the rear sliders hit a stop in the tracks- if the tracks are dirty (or greasy, which attracts dirt) the sliders can jam and the glass may push up prematurely.

Inside the motor there is a safety clutch. If the sunroof has been used a lot while it was struggling, the clutch can become worn and slip too easily. You'll have to pull the motor apart, look for the fibre discs, and clean them up (or lock them with a bit of epoxy glue, if you don't mind a bit of personal responsibility should your finger get smooshed or the motor burn out).

There is a sliding roof window section in the official workshop manual, towards the end of chapter 42 (Body).
