Globe and Mail re. imports and red tape

"I realized last Winter that if I wanted to buy a safe family van for my family that wouldn't get stuck in my own driveway during winter, I had to import one from Japan. Then I discovered that the system is rigged, I couldn't import a Mitsubishi Delica for "road safety reasons". Then I realized that in Japan, each of the vehicle manufacturers offers about thirty models while in Canada we have a third or a quarter of that. Canadians are happy with this, apparently, no one seems to care."
