I've had my L300 for a couple of years. The previous owner had done the air care just before I got it from him and the opacity reading was 13.82 (max allowable 30). I brought it in last year and had it tested. The first test read over 30 and the second test completed immediately after read a comfortable 14.63. This is when I first questioned how legitimate the test is......2 test in a row give readings from >30 to 14.63??
Anyway, just brought it in and the reading is 47.51. It makes me wonder if I brought it somewhere else would it pass? In any case as the program is ending 2014-12-31 does anybody know if I need to go through it again or can I just renew the insurance for the 3 months bringing me into 2015 and then I can just renew the insurance again for the year?
I'm all for clean emissions but I just question the validity of the test based on the testing last year. If it's something I really need to get looked at I will but if it's just some funky testing I'd rather not have to fork out the $$.

Re: air care post 2014
I'm beginning to think that the test is like, totally bogus, man. I used to go to the facility in North Van and would always fail (another car), then go for a drive, come back, pay another $20 (or what ever it is) and pass. It was suggested to me that I should consider going to the Boundary facility, where on I passed every time. Four years ago I went to the Boundary AirCare and scored 0.00 with my Delica. I felt good about this because I'd just tuned my Injector Pump and had found the sweet spot. Two years ago I went and scored 6.00, not bad but I was peeved with the result anyway, so I tweaked the fuel back a little. This time I went in and the guy just gunned the accelerator, I'm estimating 3,500 to 4,000 RPM. I've not seen this nor him before. When I got my result it was 16.something. The guy told me that he really guns it the first time then takes it easier the second time the diesel vehicle goes through. In hindsight I should have asked him if he was transferred from North Van but I was somewhat biting my lip having passed the test and not having to subject my wagon to such an imbecile ever again (I hope), so I went with the "just walk away" approach, or I suppose in this case ~ departure.
Honestly, I think the AirCare programme is about as accurate as photo radar, which can still clock a brick wall at 50 kliks! Coming down Capilano Road, my speedo is reading forty-three, I'm the only one on the road (either way) and the "your speed is" sign is reading 65;66;58;71;53...
AirCare was supposed to end last year, the CBC said because it was not making enough money (which I thought was an odd reason). Then it was extended a year but is ending for sure this year... For sure, definitely... I hope.
