Buying a Delica

I've been reading a lot on this site lately regarding L400 delicas.

I'm in the market again for a L400 delica. I have checked out various Vancouver importer sites, craigslist, and the delica trader.

The prices vary drastically depending on whether it's a private dealer or importer. Sometimes the private sales are cheaper, sometimes the importer is cheaper.

What is the best way to purchase a delica in Vancouver? I realize the price varies a lot due to what work has been done after the initial ICBC inspection. But how do I know if it is a good deal or not, if I am not personally experienced with these vehicles?
Does milage make a big difference? i.e. fresh import w/ 60k vs 3-4 year since import and 150k for working out problems that could arise down the road?

I am looking for a model with high roof, 2nd row captains chairs, diesel. I'm not sure on SWB or LWB because it will be 75/25 daily driver/weekend camper

Thanks for any help!

A lot of what you ask is quite subjective. I'd drive a few to answer some of your questions. Ask your questions or take a test drive, you don't have to buy it.

Come out to the delica meet coming up this month. Talk to a few of the owners.

Captains chairs limit the years you can buy. 99s don't have captains chairs.

I won't be at the meet but would be willing to answer any questions about the gas models. Pm me.
