Can't decide - Gas or Diesel?

I know this has been covered before but I just can not decide. Should I go for a gas or diesel Delica? Ive test drove both versions and still cant decide. So far ive come up with these pros and cons:

Gas:
Quieter
Quicker acceleration and higher top speed (not really a factor for me)
Cheaper to maintain? (Is that accurate)

Diesel:
More torque for towing and crawling in low gear.
More reliable ?

Ive been comparing fuel economy, there really doesnt seem to be much of a difference between the two. Seeing as how you are supposed to run premium in the Delica there isnt much a difference in fuel cost. I actually like the sound of the diesel, though I wasn't driving at highway speeds.

So my main concern in deciding which type of engine to go with is cost of maintenance and reliability. Which engine is better in this regard? Whichever model I go with it will be getting the full treatment from CCautos.

I would not had bought a Gas Delica....Diesel give me the possibilities to run it with every king of waste oil. Can be usefull if there another fuel crisis :)

Happy New Year
There is no need to run premium gas. Both my 4 and 6 cyl delicas run fine on regular fuel, ie: no pinging and similar power. I've owned one diesel and 2 gas delicas in 5 years.

Maintenance is much cheaper on the gas versions. Check prices on diesel filters and oil vs gas filters and oil. Wow what a difference! Gas fuel is so much cheaper. In the last 5 yrs I remember only a few months that diesel was cheaper than gasoline.

Diesel injection pump leaks are very expensive to repair and IMHO overheating still seems to be a problem on the diesel L400s. These are the only differences I have noted but it's so personal a decision. Both are great engines but you can buy a gas delica from Japan or from a dealer here cheaper than a diesel engine.

You choose....

Diesels are fun though. I like the way they drive.
