I am leaving to Portland for a week on Thursday and I need to get this diagnosed as soon as posible!

I just did the front and rear pads, as well as the front rotors over the weekend.

I just drove 40mins from Richmond to East Van and I noticed my front wheels felt a bit warmer than the rear wheels. All the discs were hot to the touch, which is normal, but I am wondering if this is just because of the pads are brand new and the piston is in a different position, or if it is something worse?
All the brake caliper pistons compressed using a piece of wood and a C-clamp. I put a healthy coat of brake grease on the slider pins. The pads appeared to be wearing evenly. The piston face which touches the pads were slightly rusted, which I think is natural since it is not sealed from the outside?

There is no smoke or burning smell, which makes me wonder if I am overthinking it

I am also wondering if this is tied to my poor fuel efficiency

Triple check the slider pins are in the proper locations. I put them in upside down once, seized my brakes, felt like a wheel was coming off.

The pin with the rubber tip goes in the bottom, right?

Correct, still something worth double checking though. I couldn't believe what that simple little mixup did. And I jam those slider bolt holes FULL of grease.

Did you have a visual look of the pistons and rubber seals? I'm not a brake master by any means but those are some of the issues I've had before.

The slider pins were in correctly, i just checked.

I decided to replace the calipers. Just waiting for the parts now. I will feel a lot more comfortable on my trip to Oregon knowing that the calipers are not seizing up and causing me more problems

Slider pins are notoriously problematic on the L400 and Montero.

Happened 3X to mine.

I should add; the particular problem with the slider pins is that they commonly seize up. Even when installed properly.

I guess I got lucky: My old ones were all in good shape, and the new calipers came with brand new ones. So I should be fine for a while.

luckily for me, I solved all my problems before my trip, I'll post an update soon. with some information
