Sure Power Battery Isolator for 1998 Delica L400?

Hello everyone,

I have a Delica (1998 L400 Jasper with gasoline engine 6G72) that landed in Vancouver on April 24 2015 and is currently on its way to Calgary. I want to put a second battery in for running accessories (fridge, etc.) and want it separated with a battery isolator. Sure Power isolators have been recommended to me by a company in Australia (they have ones that work with the Delica but shipping costs are high). When I look at the list of Sure Power units, I can't tell which model group I need because I don't know enough about the alternator in the Delica. From research I know it is a model MD350609 but I can't answer the questions if is using "external voltage regulator or external sensing". That seems to matter if you look at the last page of this pdf:

Has anyone used a Sure Power isolator in a L400 and if so, could you tell me which model you decided on and the details behind determining the correct model? If you used another manufacture's battery isolator, could you please share make and model?

Thanks in advance, Scott

I have no experience with that kind, but Blue Sea makes a great add-a-battery kit :

Many VW bus guys use them to add another battery for camping. I know there is at least one person on this forum using that kit, and that's what I plan to get too

I am very happy with my Blue Sea isolator so far. Their documentation and support was great.

I think you could get away with the smaller kit they sell. I think the maximum current from the alternator is 80 Amps.

Blue Sea stuff is great. I was going to do the same thing but then my dad gave me a tiny honda generator. Works great to run my battery charger, and now I dont have to spend all those $$ on a battery, inverter and gear to hook it all up. My only regret is that I didn't get an oddysey battery. Got one yellowtop optima, good battery but a bit bigger capacity would have been nice.

Thanks for the replies and info.

nxski - What brand/model is the one you have for sale?

Triumph73 - I believe the alternator in the L400 with a 6G72 engine is 100A

It's a PAC 200. I had it wired to a 3 way switch inside the cab. It would be running on both batteries in parallel and could be switched to start on either battery individually if needed as well. Jay did all the wiring for me and it worked very well for 100,000km's and at least 150 camps. You can see the picture in the link I posted.
