Looking for a Throttle Control Cable for my 1989 Vanwagon

Hi gang,

I'm still trying to get my '89 Vanwagon running again. The transmission has a cable running into it that has a frayed housing that prevents it from operating properly. My mechanic says it's called the "throttle control cable" which is different from a regular throttle cable. Does anybody know if this cable has another name or where I could source one?

Thanks a lot.

Peter

Check this parts website....it has all the stuff ever put into a Mitsubishi by the factory. You filter by type, year, engine, drive line type(2WD/4WD) and so on. Look up fuel system first then look through the transmission listing...its commonly called a downshift cable....when you push the accelerator to the floor the linkage pulls on the downshift cable which causes the tranny to downshift and gets you into a lower gear for hills, passing, power.

That is a wicked site, to be sure but wouldn't it be worth going to check out your local Mitsubishi dealer in Connecticut and see if they have them, the Mitsubishi Vanwagon being an American release from Mitsubishi?

Thanks for the input guys. It turns out the part is discontinued so I've struck out at 2 different Mitsubishi parts distributors. Does anybody have an extra used one they'd be willing to sell? Or could even send me a picture of the two connecting sides of the cable so that I could have one fabricated?

Part #MD609351, 26406 on the diagram.

Thanks!

Bummer. Now that you have both the PNC# & OEM number, have you tried an after market shop, such as Napa? I'm not sure what shops there are in Connecticut* but I'd think that there is some kind of after market part. Otherwise Big Bird's idea is a good one and order on line, I guess. I'd just think that seeing there are so many of these in the US that there ought to be a local option.

*Wow, I spelled that correctly the first time without looking it up.
