Combo Switch finally fried for good.

Hello folks,

After owning my L300 for 3 years, the combo switch finally gave up the ghost today. I knew it was on its way out and now the only way I can have dash & rear tail lights is to turn on the fog lights.

So I've been doing some research on here, and I've decided I'd really like to replace the switch with a new one as it looks quite labour intensive to replace. The big problem with this is the cost of these switches. It's crazy how much $$$$$$$ they are!!

So I'm wondering if anyone has sourced a supplier for this part at a reasonable price?? What about a group buy maybe? We're all faced with this problem, so I'm sure we could all benefit from a new replacement.

Anyway, for now I'm just going to keep using my fog lights with the combo switch on to have all the lights working. Any insights are appreciated.

Did you look at L300 Combination Switch?
It looks scary at first until you realise that it's just a collection of simple groups and as you separate them up it becomes more manageable.

Next time I go to the wrecking yard I'm going to grab every combo switch I can find. The budget L300s don't have variable speed wipers, but the light switch stalk (the one that breaks) is the same.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm a little outta loop here in Ontario and wasn't aware of the JDM Online Catalogue. I would pay the $220 if it's new. I always doubt my mechanical abilities, although I've owned several VW Busses over the years. That forced me to become more involved with what I'm driving. I was even questioning wether or not I could replace the combo switch myself if I did source a new one at a reasonable price.

I'm the only Delica in the village around here and would love it if there were a few in the wrecking yards to pick from.

Anyway, I'll check out this JDM Catalogue. Sounds exciting actually. Perhaps Christmas will be coming early for me:)

By the way, I did read that post on the combo switch yesterday Falco. It's fantastic with the photos and all. Regardless of what happens, I'll use it for the repair or replacement of the combo switch on my van. I also just checked out the other link on the JDM Catalogue. Later today I'm going to check my engine compartment and get that number required to do a search.

Just repaired my multifunction switch today. I cleaned it and used dielectric grease on the contacts. Bad thing is that didn't fix it. I hit all the contacts with a solder gun and now all is good!

Dielectric grease is an insulator. Solder gun idea sounds good.

I tried the solder on the contacts idea and for the first little bit it seemed to work fine. Then it got hot and the solder melted connecting two contacts that fried the mini PC board.

I would recommend NOT doing this procedure.
