Turbo swap??

Hey team

I have had a leaky turbo on my L300 since I purchased it in 2010.

I have found a non-leaky turbo at a local mechanic from a parts Delica

I would like to swap these turbos, but I am unsure about the difficulty of doing this.

I have done some work on my van (oil changes, alternator r&r, electrical), but I am no mechanic.

Has anyone else done this job? Is it difficult? Do I need special tools? Can I screw anything up if I don't know what I am doing?

Cheers
Nate

it's not hard... but it is awkward. You will find the exhaust manifold heat shield is a nightmare to fit back into place. there is also one bolt which you will have to use an open ended wrench to remove, and there is nearly no room to work. If you have no name cheap wrenches do not try to remove it.. use a decent quality wrench because if you round off the nut you'll be in a world of hurt.

You will need to remove the intake manifold, down pipe, waste gate, and 2...(3?) heat shield.

I rec replacing the intake/exhaust mani gasket, the 3 bolt turbo flange gasket, and the down pipe gasket. make sure all the flanges are true before bolting it all back up or you will be ripping it all out again to fix exhaust leaks.
