Squamish camping?

Any tips on free camping around Squamish. We are heading down for the weekend to ride bikes so close to trails is best. Looking to set up a couple tents, prefer forested sites as oppose to beaches but will try what is recommended. We have always slept in the van at trail heads but would like a campfire this weekend.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean
Start with Brohm ridge road, should be some camping to the right off the Sea to sky hwy. i don;t know where the snow is down to right now.
There's a lot of forest service sites on the Mamquam River, access 1 road south of the casino before Squamish. Most of the roads are steep but day time security could be a factor there :-( . Very pretty area!

Theres lots of sites available at the Ashlu River bridge campsite plus a campsite on the river side of the powerhouse north of the bridge. Even further north are lots of camping at the Elaho River.

These are all free but.... it's still cold up there and probably you are in the snow north of the powerhouse so take your extra sleeping bags.

My favourite of all is the Ashlu campsite. :-D The river is a little high right now but lots of fishing available with a nice gravel bar at the campsite. Flat roads for easy gravel riding too. Turnoff left at Alice Lake and left after the Cheakamus bridge. Expect many potholes when the road turns to gravel but it's not far to the Ashlu bridge..

When the snow clears I'd drive up to the Elaho, even now the mountain scenery is spectacular in the upper Squamish valley.
have fun, take your camera, warm clothes too

We ended up using the rafoose creek rec site. A bit busy on Friday and Saturday night but cleared out for Sunday and Monday.

Sean if you have pictures, comments or recommendations about the site please add them to the " Locate the Rec Site " post so others can see the site for themselves in case they wish to use it.
Thanks
